More than 200,000 dead in Peru

Peru, which has the worst death rate in the world relative to its population, has passed the threshold of 200,000 deaths due to the coronavirus epidemic, its health ministry said on Friday.

According to an AFP count, based on official figures, this Latin American country has 6,065 deaths per million inhabitants.

However, the number of new cases and daily deaths is decreasing thanks to the progress of the vaccination campaign, although authorities fear a new wave triggered by the Delta variant now predominant in the country.

- Vietnam reopens Phu Quoc Island in November -

Vietnam plans to reopen Phu Quoc Island to vaccinated foreign visitors at the end of November, officials said, as the country seeks to revive its tourism industry after nearly two years of closure.

From November 20, "charter flights" for international travelers with vaccine passports will be welcomed on the island, then, between the end of December and the end of March, the island aims to accommodate up to 'to 5,000 foreigners on similar charter flights.

Tourists will be required to present vaccination certificates as well as a negative Covid-19 test result before being allowed to enter.

- Nicaraguans get vaccinated in Honduras -

Hundreds of Nicaraguans crossed the border with neighboring Honduras on Friday to be vaccinated against Covid-19, according to health sources, while the President of Honduras Juan Orlando Hernández announced last week a loan of 100,000 doses of vaccine to the Nicaragua in a gesture of "solidarity".

Nicaragua is one of six countries in the Americas with the lowest vaccination rate, according to the Pan American Health Organization.

Rise of new cases in Germany

The seven-day incidence rate reached 100.0 per 100,000 inhabitants on Saturday in Germany, for the first time since May, confirming the rise of new cases of Covid-19 in the country, which worries the government.

This indicator thus found more or less the level known on May 13, when it displayed the value 104, falling the next day to 97.

- Reopening of cinemas in Bombay -

Cinemas began reopening on Friday in India's cinema capital Bombay, where viewers are used to lining up to see the same film multiple times, the stars of which enjoy near-divine status.
