By using a mobile phone app with facial recognition and location technology for monitoring, arriving international travelers will be able to undergo a 7-day quarantine at home.
Victorian police and COVID-19 quarantine staff will closely monitor to prevent any potential violations.
Earlier, the Queensland government announced a similar home isolation program for international travelers in early October, while the governor of NSW announced the complete abolition of the isolation requirements for Australians who have been fully vaccinated.
The home quarantine plan is part of the initial arrangement of the NSW government, the Victorian government and the federal government. This plan will replace some existing hotel quarantine plans after it is launched.
The plan was originally scheduled to be implemented on November 9, but the governor of NSW unexpectedly decided to completely abolish the statewide quarantine requirement.
From November 1, fully vaccinated international travelers will no longer need to be quarantined after entering NSW.
Overseas inbound travelers who want to qualify for exemption from isolation need to be fully vaccinated with the new crown pneumonia vaccine approved by the TGA (Australian Government Drug Administration), including AstraZeneca vaccine (AstraZeneca), Pfizer vaccine (Pfizer), Modena vaccine (Moderna) and Johnson & Johnson vaccine (Johnson&Johnson).
