This is how you will be affected by the flight exercise in Uppsala

On Thursday, the Swedish Air Force began its largest national exercise for this year, Air Defense Exercise 2021. 2,500 people participate in the exercise until Wednesday in several different places in Sweden.

- We practice the air defense of Sweden in an armed conflict.

On the one hand, we need to be able to deal with the deteriorating external situation.

The second is that we must be able to show a threshold effect, a deterrent, says Carl-Johan Edström, head of the Swedish Air Force.

"Takes the public into account"

At Ärna air base, a combat air division from Luleå is based and the exercise will be felt in and around Uppsala.

- It is clear that our Uppsala residents will notice that we are conducting an air defense exercise in the region.

But as always, we have a permit to carry out this type of flight, and as far as possible we take the public into account and have been careful to announce that we are carrying out the exercise, says Pernille Undén, exercise leader and head of Uppland's air flotilla.
