The Queen of Britain spent a night in hospital for tests

Buckingham Palace in London confirmed yesterday evening that Britain's Queen Elizabeth II spent the night before last in hospital for "initial checks" after she canceled her visit to Northern Ireland.

The 95-year-old has canceled the trip, which was scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, in order to rest for a few days at Windsor Castle.

The Queen returned to Windsor Castle on Thursday at lunchtime.

And the British "PA Media" news agency reported late on Thursday that the Queen was seen by specialist doctors at the King Edward VII Private Hospital in central London.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: 'After receiving medical advice to rest for a few days, the Queen went to hospital on Wednesday afternoon for some initial check-ups and returned to Windsor Castle at lunchtime, in good spirits.

He continued, "It was clear that the trip to the hospital on Wednesday afternoon was expected to be short for some preliminary examinations, so it was not announced by the palace at the time, and also in order to protect the medical privacy of the Queen."

The Queen had a busy schedule as she hosted a global investment summit at Windsor Castle on Tuesday evening, where she was said to have appeared beaming while performing her royal duties.

The queen, who is just five years away from her 100th birthday, is due to celebrate the platinum jubilee - the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne - next year.

The Duke of Edinburgh, husband of the Queen for 73 years, died last April at the age of 99.

Last week, the Queen used a walking stick when she attended a party marking the centenary of the British Royal Legion, PA Media reported.

It is clear that her hospitalization was not linked to the Corona virus.
