“I received the information that Telman Ismailov will receive political asylum a few days ago.

And today it was confirmed, ”said Knezhevich.

He expressed the opinion that the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country and the court were under pressure "from various sides of influence."

According to him, granting asylum to Ismailov will become "an advertisement for all criminal fugitives."

“The status of Montenegro as a“ haven for criminals on the run ”was further confirmed by this case ... Many people like Ismailov received political asylum, economic citizenship (in exchange for investment), and an identity card,” the parliamentarian added.

Earlier, Ismailov's lawyer, against whom a case was initiated in Russia, told Vijesti that the entrepreneur had received asylum in Montenegro.

On October 21, a representative of the High Court of Montenegro said that the department had received requests from Russia to extradite Ismailov.

The businessman was detained in Montenegro on a Russian search warrant.

According to the Investigative Committee of Russia, he was put on the international wanted list in 2017 "in connection with the establishment of his involvement in the murder of two entrepreneurs."
