Sarah bint Yousef Al Amiri, Minister of State for Advanced Technology and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Space Agency, said that investing in space technologies is an important matter for the UAE and the world, because we use space in our daily lives more than we think.

She explained that "there are many services in which we rely on space, such as navigation services, which we use daily, to our understanding of the environment and weather in our first steps outside the house."

And she continued: “We in the UAE seek to develop space technology and satellites, and we continue to invest in this sector to develop our manufacturing capacity center to design and develop the capabilities of complex technological systems. Space technology is one of the main drivers of both societal change and environmental impacts, in addition to a step to develop our economy.”

On the importance of the private sector’s participation in contributing to investment in this sector, Al Amiri stressed that “the space economy provides fair investment possibilities to make an impact, not only at the local level, but at the global level as well, and therefore the private sector is very important.

In the UAE, we seek continuous cooperation between government research institutions, the private sector and industry.”

And she continued, "We have a full program for our second exploration mission, as we will cooperate with the private sector to provide the necessary skills for design and development, according to the quality standards required for the space sector, so all the national programs that we are working on allow industries and ecosystem technology to move forward to create an experienced space sector."

She said, "The new space project includes sending a spacecraft to explore Venus and the asteroid belt within the solar system, and we will continue to develop our capabilities and technologies in the space sector, and we look forward to continuing to benefit the scientific community in the world, as we, through the Emirates Mars Exploration Project (Hope Probe). ), we obtained unique images of Mars that make unprecedented observations about the behavior of the gases in the atmosphere of the red planet, and the interactions that occur between them, and the observations taken by the ultraviolet spectrometer of the probe show significant differences in the abundance of both atomic oxygen and carbon monoxide in the atmosphere The upper atmosphere of Mars is on the day side of the planet, and we will continue to observe developments there.”

On the importance of the Space Week at Expo 2020 Dubai, with regard to raising awareness of the role of space exploration and the development of technology for this sector in addressing the pressing challenges of our time such as climate change, Al Amiri indicated that the space sector overlaps with many other sectors, “we may not notice this in Often, therefore, (Expo 2020 Dubai) was able to be a platform in which those interested in this sector gather, and give them the opportunity to talk with people coming from different backgrounds, in addition to workers in many other sectors, while making sure to present the space sector in a way that guarantees support those sectors and support development.

"We are working to motivate people, companies and researchers to provide innovative ideas on how to achieve food sustainability, through the use of satellite data, and how to commit to finding solutions to climate change problems," she added. Regarding the role that women are expected to play in the space sector, Al-Amiri said: “We are in a great blessing because we live under the umbrella of a state and a wise leadership that values women and works to achieve equal opportunities for both sexes. Today, university students of both sexes are increasingly entering the fields of science and technology. And engineering and mathematics, and equivalence began to be achieved, which is unprecedented. The proportion of female researchers in the scientific team of the "Probe of Hope" project constituted 80% of its total number of members. These important indicators reflect the huge efforts made by the UAE to empower Emirati women in all sectors, especially in the field of space. We will continue to create opportunities for both genders, and for children, to find the opportunities they dream of when they grow up.”

• 80% of the researchers are in the scientific team of the “Probe of Hope” project.

Sarah Al Amiri:

• «We seek continuous cooperation between government research institutions, the private sector and industry».

• “The national programs that we are working on allow industries and environmental systems technology to establish an experienced space sector.”
