The struggle between ministers, and not only between Calviño and Yolanda Díaz, has been constant since the Executive was formed. The worldview is irreconcilable and although on a day-to-day basis the labor reform is a red line, but for everyone. The European Commission is not immovable, it is not the same as in 2012, neither in terms of methods nor in objectives, and for months it has been patient, understanding that it is better to have a broad consensus for far-reaching changes than unilateral measures, and that is why it has given a lot of leeway to Díaz to develop his proposals and speak with employers and unions.

Its requirement is to have healthy accounts within the agreed deadlines, but the way to achieve them is discretionary, as long as it is realistic and does not exceed the legal thresholds.

The labor reform, together with that of pensions, are the two major structural reforms launched by Spain in the last decade, the only ones of a truly admirable scope, according to the Commission, and that is why they are uncomfortable when it is played without a guarantee clear that the consequences are calculated, controlled and will be compensated in some way.

And, for now, there isn't, hence Calviño's pressure to stop every step taken by Trabajo.
