- Just over 1.5 years ago, the Umeå City Council made a decision to become a fossil-free municipal group in 2025, which we thought was good.

But in almost two years, nothing has happened, says Annika Herrström, who is the spokesperson for those who have reported to the police.

She describes the group as a group of grandmothers and grandmothers who share the despair that Umeå municipality is not doing anything to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

They want the municipality to make concrete decisions and implement measures at a fast pace.

Up to the police to investigate

Why do you choose to file a police report?

- We read about the laws and saw in the Environmental Code and the Convention on the Rights of the Child that it is possible to report the municipality's inaction as an environmental crime.

We think it is such a serious crime against future generations that we wanted to do it.

Then we are inspired by the environmental movement in the world that has started working in this way, that, for example, the state is sued, says Annika Herrström.

Do you think that the report will lead to prosecution?

- According to the laws, it is a crime that the municipality does not make the necessary decisions, but then it is up to the police to investigate, says Annika Herrström.

SVT Nyheter Västerbotten has sought the municipal board chairman Hans Lindberg (S) for a comment.
