• The five men accused of beating Dorian Guémené to death one evening in July 2018 at the exit of a Rennes nightclub were found guilty of murder.

  • Prison sentences ranging from eight to fifteen years were pronounced against these five men little or not known to justice.

  • A man, who was not on trial for the murder of the young 24-year-old bartender, was released by the Ille-et-Vilaine assize court.

The long-awaited answers were not given by the six men accused of having beaten Dorian Guémené to death. But the Assize Court of Ille-et-Vilaine has ruled. This Friday, five of the six men who had sat on the dock for twelve days were sentenced to heavy prison terms for murder. Only one was released.

Sacha Réthoré was the most heavily sanctioned with a fifteen-year prison sentence, says

.

Already involved in a fight in the past, the young man had returned the bloodstained t-shirt from the Boulevard de la Tour-d'Auvergne where Dorian's lifeless body had been found one morning in July 2018. “Sacha was livid.

At the corner of the street, he said to me: I think he is dead.

I stealthily stuck my head and saw the body, ”said Thomas Goldschild to clear his customs.

Insufficient to convince the jurors, who sentenced him to ten years in prison and found guilty of murder.

"You can't kill someone like that"

During the two-week hearing, the six men involved in the fight kept blaming each other. All overwhelmed Sacha Réthoré, even if his brother had spared him a little. That evening, the two brothers had spent the evening at L'Espace nightclub with their father and two friends. A small altercation had broken out inside the smoking room and then in the bar. When the establishment closed, the four friends had seen Dorian Guémené and his friend Kévin fighting with two students and had joined in the fight. Only one man, who was released, had stood back.

Stanislas Réthoré, who had sworn not to have hit Dorian but only his friend Kévin, was sentenced to eight years in prison.

The two students involved in the fight were also heavily sentenced.

Alexis Pesneau was sentenced to 13 years in prison, his friend Guillaume Clavreul 10 years in prison.

The conclusions of the medical examiners had been clear.

It is indeed all the blows to Dorian Guémené that had led to his death.

"They have to pay now"

After the drama, all the protagonists fled in two directions. Some of them, who had a common knowledge of a waitress at the nightclub, knew the same evening that the victim had been found unconscious. At the Réthoré home, in Châteaugiron, they had developed a common defense, which did not last long in the face of investigators. The two students were arrested two months after Dorian's death. “You can't kill someone like that, it's not possible. There is no reason to do this. You have to know who struck the last blow in front of Space. I ask that they assume their acts, had claimed Kévin, best friend of Dorian who had suffered many blows that evening.

The parents of the young bartender who then officiated in Kenland also hoped to get truths from the mouths of the accused.

They will only get a few confused apologies from some.

But not the truth they hoped for.

"They did a terrible act and they have to pay now," Dorian's mother had demanded.
