The defendant seems surprisingly left out when he is shown into hearing room 8 of the Frankfurt Regional Court.

After a casual shake hands and a short chat with his two lawyers, he takes a seat in the dock.

Insecurity, remorse?

He shows no trace of that.

And that despite the fact that he has been blamed for a number of things.

The public prosecutor accuses Ramazan E. of attempted manslaughter in two cases, illegal possession of weapons and assault.

Friday was the first day of the trial.

When the judge asks him some biographical questions, he looks almost proud. He got married two years ago and became a father a year ago. Since 2016 he has had his own apartment and a job that he enjoys. After a youth in the home, many changes to school and a difficult relationship with his parents, he now thought that everything would be different. "I thought I was on the right track." With this sentence he suddenly seems to regret what happened.

The witness and co-plaintiff Mohammed A. reconstructed the incidents as follows: On the evening of September 12, 2020, he, Mohammed A., went to the Snack & Drinks kiosk on Idsteiner Strasse in Gallus and met a friend there.

At the kiosk there was a verbal argument between the two of them with a friend of the defendant.

When A. moved away from the scene, this friend called the defendant.

Ramazan E., who arrived a few minutes later, was holding a loaded gun behind his back, according to the witness.

The gun stuck twice

After further verbal arguments, E. first shot in the air and then pointed the gun at Mohammed A. Then he pulled the trigger. “It was 100 percent clack,” recalls Mohammed A., “He pulled the trigger.” The gun jammed. The defendant then pointed the gun at his friend and pulled the trigger again. The gun jammed again. The defendant tried to reload it. "Then we're both on him, we wanted to take the gun from him." At that moment, the neighborhood became aware, one of the witnesses had called the police. The defendant is said to have fled to his apartment on Ansbacher Strasse.

According to the public prosecutor's office, a little later, in addition to the murder weapon, the police seized a crossbow, two air rifles, a butterfly knife, an air pistol and ammunition in his apartment. The defendant had already received a prohibition order in 2011, according to which he is no longer allowed to own weapons. Some of the witness’s statements contradicted those of others involved, the judge said. The defendant's friend stated that he had been threatened by Mohammed A. with a belt and a glass bottle before he called Ramazan E. over. A. denied that.

Mohammed A. further claims to have been attacked a month later, on October 14, 2020, by the defendant and the same friend.

After he was back at the said kiosk in the evening, the defendant and his accomplice approached from behind, someone had hit him on the right cheekbone.

He then sank to the ground and the two stepped on him several times.

According to the public prosecutor's office, A. suffered several broken bones and lost seven teeth.

The process continues.
