According to statistics from the National Board of Health and Welfare, the number of riding accidents in Uppsala, which leads to visits to the emergency room, overnight stay or referral to a specialist, is around 300 accidents annually.

From 2019 to 2020, the number increased from 298 people to 321.

- Part of the increase may be related to the number of riders increasing, says Margareta Rödén.

But according to the equestrian federation, it is not entirely bad that the statistics go up.

- It shows that more people are registering, and we have had a long period of information campaigns to raise the registration rate.

Hear argareta Rödén from the Swedish Equestrian Federation about why the increased accident statistics are to some extent seen as positive in the clip above.

Work ahead

Furthermore, Rödén says that several things are going on to reduce the accidents:

• The project "safe horse" where well-known equestrian profiles are invited to lectures and clinics.

• Safety training for riding instructors.

• Article series in the magazine "Ridsport" on the theme.

• Work with Social Media to reach even those who are not members of the union.
