For two weeks, two trams with offers for a corona vaccination will run through Frankfurt from Monday.

The "Impf-Express" was presented on Friday.

The campaign is a joint project of the Verkehrsgesellschaft Frankfurt (VGF), the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsbund (RMV), the Frankfurt Health Department and the German Red Cross (DRK).

"Not enough people in the city have been vaccinated yet," said Frankfurt's mobility and health department head Stefan Majer (Greens).

"We hear worrying numbers from the hospitals," said Majer.

If you want to get through the winter well, more vaccinations are necessary.

Two routes through the city

The two converted trams will travel through the city on two different routes from October 25th to November 7th.

During this time, passengers can first be informed about the vaccination on the train and finally be protected by the vaccination.

A second vaccination then follows a few weeks later in the Frankfurt vaccination center at the fair.

"We have found a good solution together," said DRK representative Hans Reinheimer.

400 vaccinations per day could be carried out in the railways.

RMV managing director Knut Ringat called the project a “brilliant idea”.

He announced that he would also place a tram in front of Frankfurt's Deutsche Bank Park football arena on match days.

The idea of vaccination on rails is not new.

Such a project has already been implemented in Zurich, among others, as the VGF explained.

According to the Frankfurt initiators, it is conceivable to extend the campaign if it is very popular and has a high attendance.
