Thousands of people took to the streets in Berlin on Friday for an ambitious climate policy under the motto #IhrLasstUnsKeineWahl.

Speakers from “Fridays for Future” criticized the results of the talks between the possible coalition partners SPD, Greens and FDP during the “climate strike” in front of the Brandenburg Gate.

The exploratory paper that has become known makes it impossible to meet the Paris climate targets.

"We will not fight the climate crisis with lip service," warned the climate activists.

According to "Fridays for Future", around 20,000 people took part in the "climate strike" in Berlin. The police spoke of 10,000 participants in the federal capital. One person was arrested. On the edge of a blockade of the SPD party headquarters in Berlin, the police used violence against activists, said the climate movement. In doing so, she put legitimate participants at risk. The Willy Brandt House had already been smeared by strangers the previous night.

In the election campaign, all parties spoke about climate policy, said the "Fridays for Future" spokeswoman Carla Reemtsma. However, the present exploratory paper “completely bypasses the escalating climate crisis”. Instead, it offers a “mishmash of individual measures”. Christina Schliesky, another spokeswoman for "Fridays for Future", said the expected traffic light coalition has no plan to keep to the 1.5-degree limit when the temperature rises.

The movement is demanding an immediate program from the new federal government for the first 100 days.

Among other things, this requires the removal of obstacles, such as unrealistic distance limits when expanding solar and wind energy.

In addition, the activists are calling for a binding coal phase-out by 2030 and an immediate stop to the mining of endangered towns in mining areas.

According to the climate activists, other necessary measures include a “installation stop for fossil combustion engines” from 2025 and an immediate new construction and expansion stop for motorways and federal highways.
