Tunisian President Kais Saied said that the reasons for taking exceptional measures are to save the state from collapse and achieve the will of the people, at a time when external pressures are increasing, making the country's situation difficult.

During his meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs of the State of Kuwait, Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah, today, Friday, Saeed said that Tunisia relies mainly on its national capabilities to meet the various challenges it faces, and looks forward to economic and financial support for brothers and friends, including the State of Kuwait, in order to overcome This exact circumstance.

On July 25, Saied decided to dismiss Prime Minister Hisham al-Mashishi, freeze the parliament's competencies, and lift the immunity of parliamentarians, and later issued orders to dismiss officials and appoint others.

The majority of parties rejected Said’s exceptional decisions, and some considered them a coup against the constitution, while other parties supported them, seeing them as a correction of the course in light of political, economic and health crises.

Decisions and opposition

In the recent period, the vigils opposing these decisions were repeated, and the parties found themselves far from influencing the forefront of events, as the image was limited to President Saeed.

There were numerous visits and foreign statements from the United States, the European Union and countries such as Germany, France and Italy, all calling for returning the country to the democratic track and ending the state of emergency.

About 3 months have passed and there is no clear vision from President Saeed regarding the response to internal and external pressures, demanding a return to the democratic path and the restoration of state institutions.

Internal and external pressures are increasing on Tunisian President Saied to draw up a clear road map, and to reveal the date for ending the exceptional measures in force since last July 25.

Warning and worry

Last week, the US Congress warned against the state of democracy in Tunisia, considering it threatened and in danger, which Saied rejected.

On Thursday evening, the European Parliament passed a resolution expressing its deep concern about the excessive concentration of power in the hands of the President.

The European Parliament stressed the need to preserve the constitution and the legislative framework, and the country's need for a well-functioning legitimate parliament, and to restore institutional stability as soon as possible.

The European Parliament adopted the resolution by 534 votes out of 685 to 45, with 106 abstentions.

The position of the Renaissance

The Tunisian "Ennahda" movement called for the need to put an end to the exceptional measures taken by the Tunisian president.

The movement said, in a statement, that these measures entrenched the monopoly of the authorities, and rejected the principle of partnership in finding solutions to the current political crisis and a return to constitutional legitimacy.

The movement stressed the need to resume parliamentary activity in order to provide the legal conditions for the Tunisian government.

The movement considered that the exceptional measures, and the subsequent unconstitutional decisions, harmed Tunisia's gains and its reputation after the revolution, and led to isolation internally and internationally.

It has also undermined the democratic experiment, and is about to turn the country into a human rights situation at the international level, according to the statement's description.
