Two demonstrations are being held this Thursday, October 21 in the streets of the capital as Sudan faces a significant rise in political tension.

On the one hand, a demonstration of those who demand a takeover of the country by the military, on the other hand, pro-civil militants who want to protect the gains of the revolution.

For the latter, the objective is to put pressure on the military.

In Khartoum, there are thousands on Thursday chanting: "

We will not look back

 ", or "

Give power back to civilians

 ".

The demonstrators address the head of the army

who has been asking for the dissolution of the government for several days.

On the avenue bordering Khartoum airport, processions and pick-ups loaded with demonstrators converge from all directions, waving Sudanese flags.

October 21 is a symbolic date in Sudan.

This is the anniversary of one of the first popular revolutions, the one that dethroned General Ibrahim Abboud in 1964. Today, the demonstrators want to protect the gains of the 2019 revolution, the one that ended the reign of Omar al-Bashir.

The transition is in danger

 "

, confided early a demonstrator, referring to the

sit-in

which takes place a little further north of Khartoum.

All here consider that this other demonstration is financed by the military in power, with the aim of destabilizing the country.

This day is quite decisive for the future of the Sudanese transition.

Each camp will try to claim support from the streets.

And on the side of the pro-government civilians, for the moment the mobilization is massive especially since it is not only Khartoum which is rising, but also all the cities of the country, to put pressure on the military.
