SVT further strengthens the coverage of the whole of Sweden in an investment in local journalism.

In addition to the editorial office in Dorotea, editorial offices in Märsta / Sigtuna, Västervik and Åmål are also opening.

The goal is at least 50 locations by 2023, and in less than ten years the number of newsrooms has almost doubled.

 - It feels fantastically fun that SVT wants to invest in the interior of Västerbotten.

This area is fairly unattended and Dorotea is a strategic hub in the southern county where important roads meet, says Karin Wiechel, editor-in-chief of SVT Nyheter Västerbotten.

The choice of Dorotea in particular is explained by the fact that it is one of Sweden's smallest municipalities with the highest municipal tax.

SVT will cover the whole country

There are demographic challenges in an aging population in the area which lies at the intersection of the counties of Västerbotten, Jämtland and Västernorrland.

The editorial office in Dorotea is divided between the SVT editorial offices in the three counties.

A key mission for SVT is to exist and monitor the entire country.

Wherever you live in Sweden, your reality must be seen repeatedly on SVT.

In addition, SVT increasingly publishes news from the local newsrooms in the national programs on television and on svt.se.

Up to 40 percent of the material on svt.se is produced by the local newsrooms.
