The investment in local journalism is one of the biggest SVT will make in the next few years.

At the beginning of 2015, SVT was present in 27 locations.

Since then, a record-breaking expansion has taken place, financed by tough reprioritisations and savings.

With four new locations opening in 2022, SVT will have a total of 48 newsrooms around the country.

Småland gets an editorial office in Västervik.

In addition, editorial offices will be opened in Märsta, Åmål and Dorotea.

Closer to the viewers

For SVT News Småland, which covers Kronoberg and Kalmar counties, this means that we are now getting closer to the area's third largest municipality, something that the editorial staff has long sought.

- That we establish ourselves in Västervik is a milestone for SVT Nyheter Småland and it is fantastic fun.

The northern part of Kalmar County is a challenge for us to monitor from our existing newsrooms in Kalmar and Växjö given the distances, says Tomas Lundström.

- A reporter who starts from Västervik, and monitors the northern part of the county as well as the southern parts of Östergötland, means that we will be even better able to capture local issues.

We will also be able to be on site more often and get to know the area in a better way.

We will do more and better journalism, says Tomas Lundström.
