Russia is facing an unprecedented wave of Covid-19 in recent days.
The country has again beaten its record for contaminations and deaths in 24 hours, with 1,036 new deaths and 36,339 new cases respectively.
Officially, this brings the deaths of Covid-19 to nearly 228,000, but the Rosstat agency rather counted 400,000 at the end of August.
In response, Moscow City Hall ordered the closure of all non-essential services from October 28 to November 7. "During this period, all companies and organizations in Moscow will have to stop work" wrote Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, specifying that places of "sale of medicines, food products and basic necessities" are exempt. The theaters and museums will nevertheless be able to continue to operate, with a 50% gauge and on condition of presenting a health pass at the entrance.
"Experience shows us that the days off are the most effective way to reduce the number of cases and deaths", justifies the elected.
Vladimir Putin had also already announced a week off throughout the country, but refuses any confinement.
The Russian government fears as much for the economy as for its image in public opinion, while the Russians remain very suspicious of the vaccine.
Less than a third of them are vaccinated, according to the specialized site Gogov, which also explains this epidemic wave.
