The authority has developed three possible alternatives for what corona infection can look like in Sweden in the future, based on the easing of restrictions and the progress of the more contagious delta variant.

The material has been sent to the government in a sixth interim report and is intended to be used as a planning basis.

All alternatives involve an increased spread of infection in society during the winter and the rest of the autumn, but to varying degrees.

The reason is stated to be that there are still unvaccinated in the community in combination with the cold season.

In the worst-case scenario, the number of infected avalanches increases in December and January, which is considered by the Swedish Public Health Agency to be an unlikely development.

Can take action

Regardless, depending on how large the infection becomes, the Swedish Public Health Agency does not rule out the possibility of reintroducing a number of recommendations to dampen the virus' impact on society, according to state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell.

According to him, this may be about the recommendation to work from home and keep your distance.

- It is also possible to introduce vaccination certificates.

But it is most likely that we will get local variations in the spread of infection that may require targeted efforts.

Which measures will be relevant depends on where and in which group the spread of infection takes place, says Anders Tegnell in a press release.
