October 21, 2021 The Indian Ministry of Health has announced that the threshold of one

billion doses of vaccine administered against Covid-19 has been exceeded

.



A success six months after the devastating peak of cases that raised fears of the collapse of the health system. India, 1.3 billion people, reported that about three-quarters of adults have contracted the injection and about 30% are fully immunized. 



More than 400,000 infections and 4,000 deaths per day were recorded in April and May, with many hospitals unable to withstand the brunt. Cases have since dropped dramatically, with fewer than 15,000 infections per day, and most activities have returned to normal.

'India is the second country to have administered one billion doses after China, which exceeded 2.3 billion doses

Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked health workers, as special announcements were made at stations and airports, and monuments were illuminated in national colors to celebrate the event. 



"Congratulations to India! This is the result of visionary Prime Minister Modi's capable leadership," Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted.
