A court in Kiev arrested in absentia the former Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov, who is suspected of high treason during the conclusion of the Kharkov agreements on the conditions for the stay of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Crimea. This decision gives the prosecution the right to begin the procedure for his extradition, the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office said.
"Such a court decision gives the prosecution the right to start the extradition procedure against the former Prime Minister of Ukraine," the ministry said.
On March 12, the SBU launched an investigation into "high treason" and the circumstances of the signing of an agreement between Kiev and Moscow on the presence of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Ukraine until 2042.
Nikolai Azarov, who allegedly accepted the "conditions imposed by Russia," was charged with treason.
