Few municipalities in Sweden offer defector activities to criminals who want to leave gang life, shows SVT's review.

But in Stockholm, the trend has been clear over the past year: More and more people want to quit.

- I think we probably have a receipt for that.

We have expanded our business in Stockholm and we see that there were probably people out there who wanted this.

We have increased the area you can jump off to, says Hampus Johannesson, defector coordinator in the Stockholm police region, in SVT's Morgonstudion.

According to Hampus Johannesson, it is mainly the support for those who want to drop out that has been in focus.

- Our part is small but important, you could say.

But the big part when the support.

We have probably tried to protect these people, to keep these people away.

But we have realized that this is a target group that needs very qualified support, he says.

National coordination

Hampus Johannesson believes that there are still parts of the business that need to fall into place and at the same time believes that national coordination is needed.

- What we miss most is psychiatry.

These people have trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder and undiagnosed diagnoses.

This is something you would need to address very early, he says.
