On October 19th, local time, the Japanese House of Representatives election kicked off. Because pencils are required for voting, government officials in Ota City, Gunma Prefecture are sharpening their pencils with all their strength.

As a countermeasure against the new crown epidemic, in this election, the pencils used in voting will be taken away by voters.

To this end, Ota City specially ordered 103,000 pencils.

However, because the polling day is earlier than the expected date, in order to be ready before the polling day, government employees need to sharpen all the pencils during work breaks.

A staff member of the Ota City government said, “I started to sharpen pencils a week ago. To be honest, I really don’t know how many pencils I have cut.” (produced by Sui Zhiyuan)
