The toll continues to rise in India and Nepal.

At least 116 people have died in floods and landslides triggered by several days of heavy rain, according to a new report announced Wednesday, October 20 by the authorities.

Dozens of people are missing.

In Uttarakhand in northern India, authorities said 46 people had died in recent days and 11 were missing.

In the southern coastal state of Kerala, local government chief Pinarayi Vijayan reported 39 dead.

At least 30 of them were killed early on Tuesday in seven separate incidents in the worst-hit Nainital district after a series of landslides and infrastructure collapses caused by a massive downpour.

Five members of the same family were notably buried in their house, said a local official, Pradeep Jain.    

Incessant heavy rains have caused floods and landslides in Nainital.

The hill station has been cut off from the rest of Uttarakhand.

31 dead in Nepal

In Nepal, "in the past three days, flooding and landslides caused by heavy post-monsoon rains have killed 31 people across the country. Forty-three people are missing," said Humkala Pandey, official. of disaster management in government.

"It is still raining in many places," she added. "We are still compiling the data on the ground. The death toll could rise further."
