20 October 2021Facebook could soon change its name: it is the new frontier of Zuckerberg's social network.

The news was anticipated by

The Verge

website

- one of the most attentive and informed on the 'Zuckerberg galaxy' - citing a source with direct knowledge of the business plans. The anticipation isn't exactly a bolt from the blue for insiders: In July, Zuckerberg himself told The Verge that, in the next few years, "we're actually going to move from people who see us primarily as a social media company to a

metaverse society

".

CEO Mark Zuckerberg is expected to announce the news at the annual Connect conference, which will be held on October 28, but perhaps even before that date. According to The Verge sources, behind the 'rebranding' operation is Zuckerberg's ambition to go beyond social media and position Facebook as one of the many products of a company owner, along with

Instagram, WhatsApp and Oculus

. as an example of what Google did at the time, which became one of the companies of the Alphabet parent company.

Facebook has of course not confirmed the news of The Verge, much less the new name of the company, according to sources a closely guarded and unknown secret even among the highest executives. It might have something to do with

Horizon

, the name of the still unedited VR version of Facebook that the company developed with Roblox.
