During the corona crisis, more and more people have chosen or been forced to work from home.

Some think that they have become more efficient at a distance, others think that it is a plague to work without colleagues.

- Some live together with others and meet many people in their free time, but for many the workplace fulfills an important social function.

This is something that the employer must review if you switch to more homework, says epidemiologist Emma Frans in SVT's Morgonstudion.

When the restrictions have been lifted, many have gone from teleworking to working at their workplace.

But during the pandemic, many companies have also opened up to a more flexible view of the issue.

Several companies, including Spotify, have decided that their employees should be allowed to work from wherever they want.

- Homework allows employers to recruit top competence.

People all over the world can come and work for the companies.

You do not have to relate to where you are going to live, says Emma Frans and continues:

- It will be a very great flexibility.

It is also something that benefits the individual.

The puzzle of life becomes a little easier.

It becomes a freedom, you do not become quite as dependent on where the office is when you decide how you want to live your life.

More efficient and longer days

Figures from the Swedish major bank SEB show a third in the age group 15-74 worked from home in August.

However, the vast majority worked remotely between January and May.

At that time, just over 40 percent worked from their home office.

- A Chinese study shows that people who worked from home performed more, and a study from Microsoft showed that people worked longer days.

It can be good to get a lot done, but it can also be negative.

It may not be as clear to distinguish between working hours and leisure time.

The Chinese study also states that the probability of being promoted is lower in teleworking, according to the epidemiologist.

- Maybe because the boss does not see what you are doing, but also because the network aspect disappears.

Homework can also have physical effects.

- Some have experienced that they lose a lot of everyday exercise when they no longer walk or cycle to work.

It can contribute to problems.

There are also reports that show that people have experienced more back pain, says Emma Frans.
