Reuters quoted US officials as saying that an explosion occurred at a US site in southern Syria, but there were no reports of casualties.

And the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) had quoted media sources as saying that explosions occurred at Al-Tanf base - which is used by the international coalition led by the United States - after it was targeted by drones.

The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) told Al-Jazeera that there were no casualties among the US forces, explaining that the attack on the Al-Tanf base was carried out by a drone and indirect fire.

The base is located in a strategic area near the Syrian border crossing at Al-Tanf with Iraq and Jordan.

The site was established when Islamic State militants took control of eastern Syria, on the border with Iraq.

Al-Tanf is the only site with a significant US presence in Syria outside the Kurdish-controlled north.
