China is drafting a new law to punish parents for "very bad behavior" or crimes committed by their child.

The legal guardians of the children concerned will have to follow educational orientation programs.

It is a prosecutor who will decide whether or not to convict the parents, CNN reported on Tuesday, October 19.

"There are many reasons why adolescents behave badly and the lack or inappropriate family education is the main cause," said the spokesperson for the Legislative Affairs Commission of the National People's Congress.

Allow time for rest and play

The bill would be examined by the Commission and a decision should be rendered at the end of the week.

In addition to punishing parents, the text will ask them to allow time for their children to rest, play and exercise.

This is not the first time that the government has interfered in education.

At the start of the school year, Beijing explained that it was fighting against the addiction of young people to online games, considered a "spiritual opium".

The hours in front of the video games for minors had been limited to one hour per day, only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

According to CNN, the government is also fighting against the "blind" cult of Internet celebrities.

In addition, the state decided to give more free time to the children.

For example, the ministry has reduced homework and private lessons at school for core subjects, which take place on weekends and holidays.

More broadly, the government explained that it was concerned about the school load weighing on young people.
