China News Service, Beijing, October 20 (Reporter Yan Xiaohong) Data show that over 80% of the elderly over 60 are suffering from both presbyopia and cataracts.

The Chinese Ophthalmology Institute is actively working to solve the problem of presbyopia while also solving the problem of cataracts, so that the elderly can also enjoy the high-quality life of high-definition vision in their later years.

According to statistics from the Ophthalmology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, the incidence of cataracts among people aged 60 to 89 in China is about 80%, while the incidence of cataracts in people over 90 years old is as high as 90%; and presbyopia usually appears around 38 years old, and the peak incidence is 42 -Around 44 years old, almost all patients will have presbyopia symptoms at 52 years old.

At present, there are 260 million people in China who are 60 years old and above.

Based on this estimate, there are more than 200 million elderly people in China who are suffering from the dual attacks of presbyopia and cataracts and the resulting visual impairment.

Professor Zhang Jinsong, member of the Standing Committee of the Ophthalmologists Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, introduced at the release event of the Aier Ophthalmology Presbyopia and Cataract Clinic on the 20th that most of the presbyopia and senile cataracts are caused by human aging.

Presbyopia is mainly caused by hardening of the lens, weakened elasticity, reduced ciliary muscle contraction, and difficulty in reading or working at close range.

Cataract is mainly caused by opacity of the lens, blurred vision, double vision, photophobia, glare and other symptoms.

Professor Zhang Jinsong emphasized that, in fact, most of the visual impairments can be avoided or treated, such as cataracts and presbyopia, which can be solved by surgery to regain clear vision and enjoy a good old life.

In fact, the demand for eyes of the elderly in the digital age is even higher.

The 47th "Statistical Report on Internet Development in China" pointed out that as of December 2020, the number of Internet users in China has reached 989 million, of which more than 110 million "silver Internet users" aged 60 and above.

According to a report released by the international research organization Ipsos, 48% of the respondents are resistant to reading glasses, 86% of the respondents are willing to treat or correct presbyopia by other means, and more than 90% of the respondents hope to get them off-the-glass. High-quality vision makes it easier to socialize in daily life.

According to industry experts, the rapid development of the digital age has brought about changes in lifestyles, social styles, and delayed retirement, which have put forward higher requirements for the eyesight of middle-aged and elderly people. The pursuit of high needs not only to be visible, but also to be able to see clearly, but also to get rid of the trouble of wearing glasses.

According to reports, with the continuous development of technology, cataract surgery is constantly iterating, from the previous traditional blind cataract surgery to the current refractive cataract surgery, including presbyopic cataract surgery, astigmatic cataract surgery, and astigmatism cataract surgery designed for different patient needs. High myopia cataract surgery, etc., specifically solve the patient's eye problems, so that the elderly are not only "visible" after surgery, but also "see clearly" and "comfortable".

Relevant Chinese ophthalmology institutions will launch presbyopic cataract clinics in 200 cities, intending to "one-stop" solving presbyopia cataract problems.
