Harce Kayumba, a spokesman for the government of Haut-Katanga province, said that the incident occurred on the 17th when "a truck carrying more than 50 passengers fell into the Kaluma-Ngongo river."
The divers launched a search and rescue operation and rescued two survivors. They are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.
Kayumba said that he is still looking for other passengers, but he did not provide more details about the accident.
Coincidentally, a freight train derailed in the nearby province of Lualaba. Local government officials said that "9 people were killed, 36 people were injured, and 11 people were seriously injured."
