October 20, 2021 The House Committee of Inquiry ruled in favor of the indictment of former Trump strategist Steve Bannon, who refused to appear at the Congressional hearing to testify about the assault on Capitol Hill on 6 January. "Mr. Bannon - said the chairman of the commission, the Democrat Bennie Thompson - will either comply with our investigation or will have to face the consequences. If you think of following the path chosen by Bannon, you will realize what you will face". By the end of this week, the House will have to put the commission's decision to a vote. If approved, Bannon will be officially reported to the Justice Department for prosecution to begin. If convicted, theformer strategist faces up to twelve months in prison. President Joe Biden said Friday that anyone who fails to respond to the committee's call will be prosecuted. Donald Trump has long asked his closest associates not to go testify.

The fact that Bannon and Trump are claiming executive privilege "seems to reveal only one thing," which is that "Trump was personally involved in the planning and execution of January 6," says Liz Cheney, the Republican vice president of the commission on January 6.

Cheney then turns to his Republican colleagues in Congress: "You know there is no evidence of electoral fraud capable of reversing the outcome of the vote. You know this accusation is false," he says, referring to the words Trump has been repeating for months. or that he was defeated in the elections due to fraud.
