Chinanews.com, October 20. According to the US "World Journal" report, the 2021 American College Entrance Examination (ACT) test report was released. About 1.3 million high school graduates in the United States took part, with an average composite score of 20.3 (full score of 36), which was lower than 20.6 for the 2020 graduating class.

Asian students took the lead, maintaining the lead in the four subjects of English, reading, mathematics, and science, as well as overall scores. California candidates ranked fifth in the country with an average of 26.1.

According to the ACT Committee analysis report, in the graduating class of 2021, 25% of the candidates have reached the bottom line of the four subjects (English, Reading, Mathematics, and Science) of the ACT university preparation courses, and 36% of the candidates have reached the bottom line of three subjects.

But 38% of candidates did not meet the benchmark, an increase of one percentage point from last year.

Similar to previous years, Asian students ranked first with a comprehensive score of 24.9, followed by whites at 21.7, Latinos at 18.3, and Africans at 16.3.

In addition, Asian students also ranked first in the individual subjects of English, reading, mathematics and science, as well as STEM projects representing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

California candidates scored 26.1, second only to Massachusetts (Massachusetts, 27.6), Connecticut (27.2), New Hampshire (New Hampshire, 26.6), New York (New York, 26.3), ranking No. five.

However, this year's University of California (University of California) enrollment canceled the ACT test scores, so the good scores of California candidates were not fully utilized.

Affected by the new crown pneumonia epidemic, the average English, math, reading and comprehensive scores of the graduating class of 2021 all dropped by 0.3 points, and their scientific scores dropped by 0.2 points.

The proportion of students who reached the baseline of all four subjects dropped from 26% to 25%, while the proportion of students who did not meet the baseline increased by 1 percentage point, from 37% to 38%.

The ACT university preparation baseline is the minimum ACT score that predicts whether candidates can successfully complete the freshman course after entering the university.

Studies have shown that students who reach the ACT benchmark will have a B or better score of about 50% in the corresponding university courses, and a C or higher score of about 75%.

Therefore, the ACT score is an important reference indicator for universities, especially prestigious schools, to admit new students.

Universities use ACT test scores to determine admissions and course schedules, and to provide students with suggestions throughout the registration process.

Information about ACT test scores, high school scores, academic preparation, extracurricular activities, and future plans will help admissions officials select applicants who will most benefit from the school’s courses.
