• Brazil Bolsonaro says he will not be vaccinated against covid-19: "It does not make sense"

The special commission installed in the

Senate of Brazil

to investigate possible crimes committed by the Government of Jair Bolsonaro in the management of the pandemic

will accuse the president of 11 crimes

, including homicide by omission.

Senator

Renan Calheiros

, rapporteur of the report, will present the text tomorrow, Wednesday, but has already announced that the accusations will be weighty.

According to him, Bolsonaro, many of his ministers and other members of the Government

acted so that the covid-19 spread as quickly as possible

. "With this behavior, the Government, which had a legal duty to act, consented to the death of Brazilians," he said. More than

600,000 people lost their lives

in the country, and senators believe that the government's denial policy played a key role in that tragic outcome.

The report verifies the existence of the so-called

'parallel cabinet'

, made up of doctors, politicians and businessmen who advised Bolsonaro "with the intention of immunizing the population through natural contamination", prioritizing early treatment with drugs without proven efficacy and stimulating non-compliance with non-pharmacological measures, such as social distancing. In addition, remember that there was a

"deliberate delay" in the purchase of vaccines

, which ended up costing thousands of lives.

After five months of public questioning that filled hours of newscasts and further depleted the president's popularity, the Senate finished its job. The commission collected important evidence through the hearings and now the report will be delivered to

the Prosecutor's Office, which will decide whether or not to charge Bolsonaro and the rest of the accused

. 70 people and two companies are expected to be charged, for a total of 24 crimes. Most have to do with defending ineffective drugs to treat COVID-19.

Predictably, Bolsonaro will be charged with 11 crimes, based on the Penal Code, the Constitution and the Rome Statute: crime of epidemic resulting in death, violation of preventive health measures, irregular use of public funds, incitement to crime, falsification of documents , charlatanism, prevarication, genocide of indigenous people, crime of responsibility, crime against humanity and homicide by omission.

In recent days, there have been strong tensions between senators, especially because some did not see clear the legal basis to accuse Bolsonaro of genocide (since it would be necessary to prove a deliberate intention to cause death) or intentional homicide, not even to include their children in the accusations.

The final wording of the report will be known as of Wednesday

, when the official reading is made, and will be voted on next week, although it is expected to be approved without problems.

Afterwards, the ball will be on the roof of the Prosecutor's Office.
