- If it had been a director general who himself had not seen anything wrong with this, it would have been a different matter, says Minister of Trade and Industry Ibrahim Baylan (S) in response to the question of whether the government has confidence in heads of government who delete public documents.

Last week, Baylan called Sundqvist, director general of the Swedish Forest Agency since 2016, to a meeting.

It was after information in Dagens Nyheter and TV4, among others, that he and his family during his time as head of government expanded their large forest holdings.

The holding could involve conflict of interest situations because the Swedish Forest Agency processes applications from forest owners who want to fell.

Admitted errors

SVT also reported that Sundqvist deleted emails he sent and received through his private e-mail address in the role of CEO.

He has previously said that was wrong and something he should not have done.

Sundqvist writes about forest ownership and its management, in a comment after the meeting with the Minister of Trade and Industry:

“As a result of today's meeting, after consulting with my wife, I have decided to leave our forestry dormant.

This means that during my time as CEO, we will not take anything other than forest management measures and measures that are necessary after, for example, a storm. ”

Going out

Herman Sundqvist's appointment as CEO will expire in four months, in February next year.

When asked what happens next, the Minister of Trade and Industry says that he does not want to speculate about it, no decision has been made in the government anyway.

- We will leave a message as soon as it is clear, says Ibrahim Baylan
