The new ward at the hospital will be taken into use on Wednesday when patients from the old children's ward move into completely new and larger premises.

- We have the opportunity for 18 care places, but right now we have a staff for 15 care places, says Anna-Karin Albin.

It is the shortage of nurses that means that it is not possible to staff all care places, but according to Anna-Karin Albin, there will be better conditions in patient care.

- We have larger premises and better space.

In the three new premises, we can also receive patients on return visits, she says.

Anna-Karin Albin, operations manager for children and young people at Helsingborg's hospital, is pleased with the new department.

High emergency flow

The biggest challenges in child and adolescent healthcare in northwestern Skåne right now are the high influx of acute patients as a result of the unusually strong spread of the RS virus.

- We have many children who are admitted and the care situation changes several times a day because we have a high turnover of patients, says Anna-Karin Albin.

At the same time, she believes that the pressure is strong throughout healthcare.

Especially in primary care, which means that it spills over to the highly specialized care.
