04 June 2020The finance police of the provincial command of Catania, in collaboration with the Scico and the aeronaval group of Messina, has carried out an order of precautionary measures against 9 people, 2 in prison, 3 under house arrest and 4 subject to obligations di Pg, for an alleged illicit management of the Lentini landfill, in the province of Syracuse, the largest in Sicily, managed by 'Sicula Trasporti'.



Refusals and the mafia


 The investigation also concerns the pressure "exerted by members of the Nardo mafia clan" for "the entrustment of a kiosk-barnello stadium where Sicula Leonzio plays", a First Division football team.



The offenses


The crimes hypothesized for various reasons by the Catania Public Prosecutor's Office are criminal association aimed at the illicit trafficking of waste, fraud in public supplies, continued corruption, disclosure of official secrecy and external competition to the mafia association.



The seizures and the buried money


116 million euros were seized by the Guardi di Finanza during checks in the Leonardi group companies.During the searches in the Lentini landfill, plastic drums were discovered inside which there was cash for one million euros. The drums had been buried.



The king of waste in Sicily
