On October 15, registration for the spring higher education programs closed.

Nearly 243,000 people have signed up for the spring courses this year - a decrease of almost 15,000 people compared with the peak in the spring semester of 2021. But for Linköping University, the trend seems to be holding up.

- We see that the application pressure has increased overall when it comes to first-time applicants both in terms of program and course.

Last year, applications increased by nine percent.

This year, it will increase by four percent, says Ragnhild Löfgren, education councilor at Linköping University.

Pandemic possible explanation

Ragnhild Löfgren believes that one explanation for the increased search pressure both this year and last year may be due to the pandemic.

- There are many who seek education when the labor market is or has been swaying, she says.

The pandemic may also have had an effect on what people want to read.

Linköping University has noticed an increased pressure on its medical educations.

- Not all educations have admission to the spring semester, but the medical ones do.

But overall, we see at Liu an increased application pressure for nursing education.

It lasts, says Ragnhild Löfgren.

On December 9, applicants will receive their first admission letter.
