19 October 2021 The Florence public prosecutor closes the investigation into the Open Foundation, the safe of Matteo Renzi when he was secretary of the Democratic Party, which supported his political initiatives, including the kermesse of the Stazione Leopolda.
Over 3.5 million euros of money donations, in violation of the rules on party financing, slipped into the accounts of Open between 2014 and 2018 are at the center of the investigation and the accusations, for various reasons, for 15 suspects, 11 individuals and four companies.
Everyone was notified of the notice of conclusion of the investigations and among them is the current leader of Italia Viva. Senator Renzi is considered by the investigators to be the de facto director of the former foundation, he is accused of illegal financing of parties in competition with the former president of Open, the lawyer Alberto Bianchi, and with the members of the board of directors, friends and companions of street Marco Carrai, Luca Lotti and Maria Elena Boschi. All disputes without foundation according to Renzi himself who, having received the deed, speaks of "trespassing of judges in politics".
"The Leopolda - he says - was not the manifestation of a current or part of the Democratic Party, but a place of freedom, without flags and with all the funding provided for by the law on foundations. When the criminal judge wants to decide the forms of politics we are in the face of a dangerous encroachment for the separation of powers. They want a political trial for politics. We will ask for justice in the courtrooms ", concluded Renzi.
