The new general director of the

lobby

led by

José Blanco

is the former Socialist Councilor for the Presidency of Asturias,

Guillermo Martínez

. He thus replaces

Antonio Hernando

, the new deputy chief of staff of the Prime Minister,

Pedro Sánchez

. Martínez was number two and spokesman for the Government of

Javier Fernández

in the Principality of Asturias for seven years until he announced that he was leaving politics in June 2019. He aligned himself with Fernández, in front of the

Sanchistas

of the Asturian PSOE.

Blanco remains the CEO and chief executive officer of Acento Public Affairs, the lobbying firm he founded with Hernando, and the former PP Minister of Health, Alfonso Alonso, continues as president.

Martínez, born in Oviedo in 1975, has a degree in Geography from the University of the Asturian capital and has been a leader of the socialist youth and a member of the Executive of the party in the Principality.

Hernando's march to Moncloa has caused controversy for spending days from being a lobbyist to high office in Moncloa. The Government spokeswoman,

Isabel Rodríguez

, defended this Tuesday that the appointment is

"absolutely scrupulous"

with the incompatibility regime ", in relation to her previous work at the consulting firm Acento. At a press conference after the Council of Ministers, Rodríguez has defended that the decision to place Hernando as 'number two' of the chief of staff

Óscar López

, responds to the interest of the Government to "think of the best" to configure their equipment.

Hernando stepped down from his post on Friday as CEO and administrator of the consulting firm founded by former minister José Blanco and, as reported by this newspaper on Monday, sold all his shares in the consulting firm.

The presence of Hernando and López in Moncloa, two former subordinates of Blanco, triggers his influence in the center of power and may favor the evolution of Acento, founded in 2018 and which multiplied its income by 14 in 2020, the year of the pandemic.
