In the night from Sunday to Monday, a fire broke out in a house in the village.

A 97-year-old man managed to escape the flames by fleeing, with the help of neighbors, from a first-floor window.

His 69-year-old daughter, however, could not be rescued.

His lifeless body was found by firefighters.

Living in La Roche-sur-Yon, the victim spent the night in Benet after having presented a book co-written with his father a few hours earlier at a book fair, reports
