"Unfortunately, the car does not go so straight, but it should probably work anyway," said Carl Wernlid, who attends the electricity program at Finnveden's high school in Värnamo.

The competition is organized by, among others, Jönköping University and is a recurring event during the current climate week.

Students compete in the categories speed, innovation and design.

The cars may be a maximum of 15 centimeters wide.

They are powered by batteries that are charged using solar cells.

Want to create interest in technology

- The idea is to increase the interest among young people to choose careers in the area known as STEM, technology, engineering and mathematics, says Jesper Boesen, head of collaboration at the University of Learning and Communication at Jönköping University.

- It's great fun to just be here and compete.

It really does not matter how it goes, said Atthaporn Suwannasopa, one of the participants who also represents Finnveden's high school.

That their car was made of cardboard turned out to be a favor.

In the clip, you get to see how it went for the students.
