[Explanation] In recent years, anti-globalization and anti-globalization voices, forces, and actions have suddenly emerged. Some people think that globalization is dead.

Is globalization dead?

Will the transfer of power happen?

Zhang Yunling, member of the Faculty of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Chair Professor of Shandong University, and Dean of the Institute of International Studies of Shandong University, recently accepted an exclusive interview with China News Service on the subject of "Questions about East and West".

The globalization of this world is a cause and a result.

The cause is that as soon as the world opens up, the government’s policies are increasingly moving towards this direction, that is, openness, support for openness, support for going out, support for market opening, and through various system constructions, the biggest system construction is Multilateral system, WTO, free trade zone.

Under such circumstances, globalization has achieved unprecedented development.

If development has always been rapid development, it must be adjusted, as is the case with globalization.

[Explanation] Zhang Yunling believes that globalization has entered a period of adjustment, but opening up, division of labor, supply chain, etc. will not end, and new technologies will also promote the development of new globalization.

The new globalization is also developing. First, the basic laws of interdependence, open development, and international division of labor have not changed, but only formal adjustments.

The second is the development of new technologies. From the beginning, the development of new technologies has been transnational, regional and global, and spatial. These are all developing.

Take the Internet, for example. During the epidemic, the most prosperous thing is the Internet. Everyone has meetings and continues to open. Rely on the Internet. These things that rely on the Internet require more space, a larger market, and a larger network. Therefore, this new globalization will continue. continue to develop.

[Explanation] China is a beneficiary of globalization.

Zhang Yunling said that China must adhere to reform and opening up, and is also an active promoter and defender of globalization.

This is why although China is subject to so many sanctions and so many restrictions, what has not changed is that I want to be open, I want to be global, and I want to multilateralism.

I think that in China's future development strategy, since the industrialization of modern history, for the first time, China has been in the forefront in some aspects, and has the ability to do better.

[Explanation] From the general trend of world development, changes in power will inevitably occur.

In Zhang Yunling's eyes, today's power transfer is different from the past, that is, the typical feature of power transfer is not power substitution, but the decomposition and dispersion of power.

The transfer of power in the new era is "multi-directional," because the world always needs some powerful forces that can lead and dominate. This is for sure, and it will not disappear.

But the first transfer is the establishment of international and regional organizations, which are no longer under the control of a single country.

The era of a great power dominating the world has passed and has become history.

You cannot look at the transfer of power from a traditional perspective. If you look at it that way, there would be no Thucydides trap.

[Explanation] Zhang Yunling also mentioned that in terms of international changes, we cannot focus all the spearheads on Sino-US relations.

There is no country in the outside world that is willing to confront China and the United States, and is unwilling to form a group to participate in the confrontation of any party. Because of mutual interests, we must have a multi-faceted, multi-layered, and multi-directional perspective when we analyze the world today.

[Explanation] Zhang Yunling believes that the realization of the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation must be understood and accepted by others to avoid strategic misunderstanding and misjudgment.

As a rejuvenating country, China looks forward to standing in the center of the world stage. But by then, China will not only be standing in the center of the world stage, but there will be others. This is another prominent feature of the shift in power in the new era.
