A 40-year-old man appeared in court in Saint-Brieuc (Côtes-d'Armor) on Thursday.

In 2015, he embezzled several checks from his business and then gambled the sums.

The damage was then estimated at 53,000 euros, reports

Le Courrier Indépendant

.

For two years, he had succeeded in convincing the owner of a PMU bar to cash the checks and return him a sum in cash.

Suffering from gambling addiction, he then decided to consult a professional and confessed everything to his boss.

The 40-year-old kept his job but it was agreed that he had to repay the money.

He reoffends

The man reoffended a few months later and this time embezzled nearly 43,000 euros.

He had asked four other players to cash the checks in return for a commission of 30% of the amounts.

After finding out everything, the store owner filed a complaint.

The defendant was sentenced to one year in prison with a probationary suspension, two years of ineligibility, and a fine of 60,000 euros, including 58,500 for various damages.

The PMU boss was fined 10,000 euros, including 7,000 euros in repayment of damages.

Prosecuted for concealment, the four players have accumulated 10,400 euros in damages and 4,000 euros in fines.
