"From October 21 to November 15, there will be a lockdown," the minister said at a press conference, quoted by RIA Novosti.

Shops and institutions that provide essential goods and services will continue to work, the government added.

Mass events are prohibited in the republic.

The curfew will operate from 20:00 to 5:00, Pavluts said.

Earlier, the chief epidemiologist of the Latvian Center for Disease Prevention and Control, Yuri Perevoshchikov, published data from Johns Hopkins University, according to which Latvia took first place in the world in the number of recorded cases of coronavirus per 1 million inhabitants.
