• Ballads Without You: the well-known ballad of Mariah Carey that carries three deaths behind her

  • Anniversary The tragic death of Ritchie Valens, the singer of 'La Bamba', with only 17 years

In the winter of

1986

, music in English dominated the Billboard charts.

Prince

stood out with

Kiss

,

INXS

went up and down positions and the

Heart

duo

stayed on top. However, in March of that year,

a curious song in German

dethroned them all. This is

Rock Me Amadeus,

a song inspired by Mozart,

which with its rock and electronic rhythms conquered 35 countries. And although Falco, his interpreter,

never had a number 1 again,

the Austrian did become a millionaire. Despite this, his personal life did not run the same fortune .... And the fact is that, on repeated occasions, Falcó confessed that "he was crazy", that

he used a lot of drugs

and needed alcohol to survive fame.

You could say that Falco's life was

tragic from the time he was born.

The reason? The singer was the

only survivor of a triplet birth

and, according to the artist's own words, he sometimes

felt the absence of his brothers.

But that was never an impediment for the Viennese to develop his talents. In fact, Falco - whose real name was

Johann Hölzel

- started playing the

piano

when he was only four years old and enrolled in the

conservatory

before finishing high school. However, the young man never felt comfortable and, within a few months, he left the institution because of "his frustrating education."

A year later, Falco was forced to do

military service,

but the music bug was still around and when he finished his duties, he started

playing bass

for some well-known jazz bands.

Despite this, the musician never introduced himself as Johann, but rather as John Hudson, John Di Falco or other nicknames, among which one day

Falco

appeared

.

The name under which he decided to launch his

solo

career

in 1981.

From the beginning, Falco was the center of attention.

He had a look that made him special and

the punk attitude

that the time demanded, so in 1982 the interpreter managed to record his first album.

From the beginning of his professional career, Falco managed to stand out in various countries. For example, his songs

Ganz Wien

and

Der Kommissar

achieved great recognition in Europe, especially in the United Kingdom. Yet none caused such fervor as

Rock Me Amadeus,

the hit that positioned Falco as

the first German-speaking singer to reach number 1 in the United States.

As a result, many affirm that the artist did not manage to be more than a 'one hit wonder'. However, it is important to remember that the Austrian's next single - called

Vienna Calling

- also managed to break into the Billboard Hot 100, reaching number 18.

Even so, Falco's biographers assure that the singer

never had a happy life.

He was a

perfectionist, selfish, he

sought constant fame and when he did not get it, he abused

drugs and alcohol.

Moreover, in a book written by Horst Bork, his former manager, the representative reveals that the celeb

lost a millionaire contract

in 1986 for not being able to stay sober.

"Falco missed a plane to London because he was drunk. All negotiations and efforts were destroyed by his addiction to alcohol and drugs," he wrote.

Also, Bork assures that music was the only thing that kept Falco alive ... In addition to

Katharina, his daughter, who was born in 1986.

During their early years, Falco and his wife Isabella raised Katharina together. But in 1990, the singer began to have

doubts about the girl's paternity

and a DNA test failed to deliver conclusive results, so the artist decided to leave Katharina

out of his will.

"Before the test, I was his only heir. After that, I was completely excluded," the young woman told

The Local.

But neither Katharina nor her mother could have imagined that the will would become effective in 1998, after

Falco died in a traffic accident.

According to the news at that time, the interpreter was

driving a Mitsubishi Montero

, between the cities of Villa Montellano and Puerto Plata -in the Dominican Republic- when he collided with a bus.

And although the news of his death shocked thousands of fans,

his popularity rose again

and

Rock Me Amadeus

became fashionable again.

A situation that his record company took advantage of, which, a month later, released

Of The Dark,

his posthumous album and, probably, one of the most successful of his career.
