Local elected officials were reassured on Saturday, despite the absence of a quantified announcement, by their new meeting with Emmanuel Macron, a month after the announcement of the “Marseille en grand” plan by the head of state.

Friday morning, the socialist mayor of Marseille, Benoît Payan, explained to the press to wait for "the decision" of the president, in particular for his plan to renovate schools, estimated at 1.2 billion euros.

After the dinner of more than four hours organized Friday evening in the prefecture between the Head of State and the local elected officials, the entourage of the mayor assured Saturday that this interview had been "fruitful": "It made it possible to work well and to address points of detail.

"

For her part, on Saturday morning, at the end of the national congress of firefighters closed by the President of the Republic, the president of the Aix-Marseille-Provence metropolis, Martine Vassal assured: "last night's dinner was important, the the work we do is important (…), things are progressing ”.

"Something to invent"

"I spoke with the mayor of Marseille, we completely agree that he recovers his local skills, it makes sense for a city of 860,000 inhabitants," added Martine Vassal.

In the midst of the garbage crisis at the end of September, during which Marseille had suffered a ten-day strike by garbage collectors, the town hall claimed sovereignty over waste collection.

The Head of State recalled Friday his wish to help Marseille: "The difficulties here are so exceptional and the potentials so great that there is something to be invented," Emmanuel Macron had launched Friday evening, in the middle of a hundred young people and entrepreneurs.
