Israeli hospitals targeted with 'cyber ransom' attacks

The Israeli health and cyber authorities said today, Sunday, that many hospitals and medical facilities in Israel were targeted by ransomware attacks, but the authorities were able to identify and block them.

However, Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in Hadera, north of Tel Aviv, struggled for several days to cope with the effects of the attack.

Hillel Yaffe Medical Center's systems were frozen on Wednesday and the hackers demanded a ransom.

Sunday's statement said technicians are still working on recovering data systems.

Meanwhile, staff have had to use alternative paper-based systems to accept patients, according to media reports.

It is still not clear who was behind the attacks.

The police launched a criminal investigation.
