October 17, 2021 A basketball player, Haitem Jabeur Fathallah, 32, from Fortitudo Messina, died in the Reggio Calabria hospital where he was taken due to an illness that hit him during a meeting between his team and the Dierre Reggio, valid for the Serie C Gold championship.
Fathallah, while engaged in a phase of play, collapsed and passed out.
The game was immediately suspended to help the basketball player.
The player was taken to the hospital in an ambulance, but died shortly after admission.
Fathallah had over 250 appearances in senior basketball leagues.
Born in Agrigento, after playing with Porto Empedocle, Racalmuto and Licata, he arrived in Messina in the 2016/2017 season, playing first in the Basket School and later in the Fortitudo Messina.
