• Huesca The Civil Guard resumes the search for the missing soldier in the El Grado reservoir

The search teams of the Civil Guard have found this Saturday the

lifeless body of Sergeant Mario Quirós Ruiz

, who had disappeared at dawn last Tuesday, October 12, when he was doing

a night diving practice in the El Grado reservoir

. in the province of Huesca.

Sergeant Mario Quirós Ruiz, 22, single and from Malaga,

had joined the Army in August 2017

and had been stationed since July 2020 in the

Engineer Regiment No. 8

, belonging to the General Command of Melilla.

His disappearance occurred during a scheduled practice

of the Assault Diver course

, on a night tour.

Sergeant Quirós had obtained the aptitude of elementary diver after passing the corresponding course, this same year.

The Assault Diver course, taught by the Army itself, aims to specialize students in the

use of diving and navigation equipment in military operations

that require action in inland courses and / or bodies of water and in ports. .

This Saturday a second robot had been incorporated into the search tasks, provided by a company in Murcia and which has very advanced technology.

It was intended to reinforce the work carried out at the deepest levels by the other robot from the Madrid unit of

the Special Group for Underwater Activities

(GEAS).

During these five days the GEAS components of Madrid and Aragon have beaten the entire marked area up to 50 meters deep, which

divers

can reach

.

From that height, and up to 72 meters from the reservoir, they have used

underwater cameras and robots

.

The

Army

has lamented the fatal outcome and, in a note, joins the pain of the family, friends and colleagues of Sergeant Mario Quirós.
