Dubai misdemeanour condemns a Gulf woman who published her husband's phone number on "Instagram"
The Dubai Misdemeanour Court fined a Gulf woman 2,000 dirhams after convicting her of violating her husband's privacy by publishing his phone number and photos from the marital home on a social media platform, despite the existence of a legal dispute between them and divorce proceedings.
The case papers stated that the 40-year-old woman published pictures of text conversations between her and her husband, including his phone number, on Instagram last January, which prompted him to write a complaint against her, and refer the incident to the Public Prosecution and from there to the Misdemeanour Court.
The victim's husband accused his wife of violating his privacy in the communication he wrote at the Bur Dubai Police Station, and confirmed his statements in the prosecution's investigations, while the wife denied the accusation against her before the court, noting that she was in her apartment and communicated by phone via an application to chat with her husband's sisters with the aim of reaching a solution. to the alimony problem.
And she admitted that she put pictures of her children on the Instagram platform, as well as text conversations with her husband, not imagining that this would put her under the law.
After examining the case, the Misdemeanors Court imposed a fine of 2000 dirhams against the wife, while the Public Prosecution appealed the ruling before the Court of Appeal, calling for a stiffer penalty.
It is noteworthy that the second paragraph of Article 21 of Federal Decree-Law No. 5 of 2012 regarding combating information technology crimes, as amended, stipulates imprisonment and a fine or one of these two penalties for anyone who uses a computer network, an electronic information system, or an information technology means to attack a person’s privacy in Other than the cases permitted by law in one of the ways, including taking photos of others or preparing, transmitting, disclosing, copying or keeping electronic photos.
